These can often lead to sight-threatening problems and blindness. Remember that many of these injuries occur in children. The top 7 sports with the highest rate of injury include: baseball and softball, basketball, swimming activities, football, unspecified ball sports, soccer and racquet sports. These injuries are caused from direct contact with balls, or fingers and elbows of other athletes. Younger children are especially at risk since their hand/eye coordination and reaction time is not mature yet. Although many of these sports require helmets and face guards, this does not always protect the eyes (and can even lead to a false sense of security). Adding sports goggles to an athletes uniform will help protect their eyesight from these potential hazards. If the child wears eyeglasses already, these are not appropriate for the type of sports mentioned above because they are not made of materials approved for sports. There are many brands and styles of sports goggles available in non-prescription and prescription for both children and adults. The recommended lenses are made from polycarbonate. This is a type of plastic that is impact resistant, and it has 100% UV protection (although it is clear) and comes with scratch-resistant coating.Although there is nothing that can prevent all sports-related eye injuries, wearing sports goggles can significantly reduce the likelihood and severity of an accident. The sports goggles come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. Some are specialized, and some may be used for a variety of sports. Don't become a statistic. Keep your eyes and your children's eyes protected! Safety glasses: Many occupations require safety glasses for their employees. These are required to meet U.S. safety standards. The frames must be marked as safety frames, and the lenses must have a special laser marking distinguishing them as safety lenses. These safety glasses can be ordered from Chancellor Eye Care. Remember to bring a copy of your employer's requirements, such as with or without side shields and any special styles required, so we may serve you better. In addition to safety eye wear required for employment, it is also important to remember safety goggles for yard work, hobbies, and working around the house. Sawdust, metal particles, plant trimmings, rocks, and sticks are common sources of eye injuries that occur at home. Prevent these injuries with inexpensive protective eye wear. Return

Custom polarized clip-ons can be made to fit any frame. Polycarbonate lenses are lightweight, thin, come with built-in scratch resistant coating and also UV protection. However, the best feature of polycarbonate is that it is impact resistant and will not shatter when struck. These are a necessity for all children and for sport glasses, and an excellent choice for those who would like thinner and lighter weight lenses.
Scratch resistant coating - a hard coating that minimizes the light scratches on lenses. Progressive addition lenses (PAL's or no-line multifocals) - the distance prescription is placed near the top of the lens and the lens gradually increases in focus until reaching the bottom of the lens where the reading prescription is located. This lens is more like natural vision than any other multifocal. It includes every focal point between the distance and reading prescription. This variable focus produces some distortion on the sides of the lens so a person using this type of lens needs to point their nose at the object rather than looking through the sides of the lens at an object. The majority of people wearing multifocals prefer this style of lens. Double-D multifocal is a specialized occupational lens. The lens resembles a standard bifocal or trifocal, plus it also has a bifocal segment at the top of the lens. This is perfect for people who need to look up and have magnification for near objects such as plumbers, mechanics and hobbyists. Computer
workstation glasses are custom designed based on the measurements
of any given workstation. These are a type of progressive multifocal lens
which has a larger mid-range and near section for easier focus on the
computer and desktop. These lenses can greatly reduce eyestrain associated
with computer use. They are often better than single vision lenses because
they have the variable focus necessary for tasks at different distances. Photochromatic
lenses are clear indoors and become dark outdoors. These are available
in a variety of lens materials, including glass, plastic, and polycarbonate.
Exposure to UV rays causes a chemical reaction which darkens the lenses.
Since the windshield blocks some of the UV exposure, the lenses do not
get as dark inside a car. Next time you order your new glasses, Dr. Kossol
may prescribe some of these treatments for you, depending on your needs
and eye health. Chancellor Eye Care offers a wide selection of sunglasses, both prescription and non-prescription. Our most popular brands include: NIKE, Aspex, Calvin Klein, and Kenneth Cole. The higher quality sunglasses offer polarization, anti-reflection back coating, light mirrored front coatings, optical purity, 100% UV protection, and high contrast or neutral tints. If we do not have what you want in stock, we can order it for you with no obligation to buy it. Sunglasses
are important in slowing the progression of cataracts, as well as protecting
the cornea and conjunctiva from harmful UV rays which causes the same
damage to the eyes as it does to the skin. Not only do sunglasses keep
the eyes protected, they also increase your comfort, and can enhance the
crispness of vision by cutting out glare. Protection from UV rays is a
concern for all of us. People at high risk for developing problems from
UV exposure include those who spend long hours in the sun because of work
or recreation, those who have had cataract and refractive surgery, individuals
who have certain retinal disorders and people who take certain medications?
Such as tetracycline, sulfa drugs, birth control pills, diuretics and
tranquilizers? That increase the eye's sensitivity to light. And children's
eyes are particularly susceptible because kids usually spend more time
outdoors than adults and their young eyes let more UV rays inside. |
